David Gentleman wants to get rid of the queen
One of England’s most important stamp designers, if not the most important, is not particularly keen on the portray which is featured on every Great British stamp, namely that of Queen Elisabeth II.
As can be read in a Philateli-Graphics article, the designer concerned, David Gentleman, would prefer a scutcheon or the lettering ‘UK’ on the stamps. Philateli-Graphics is the Graphics Philately Association’s magazine. In the last edition, Gentleman was interviewed and he reveals that he, in the past, had tried to get rid of the obligatory portray of the Queen. ‘It almost constantly hindered the other graphic elements of the stamps which I designed,’ he says.
