Faeroer proud of their tunnel
How do you dig a tunnel? Well, you simply remove some 327 000 m³ of soil and rocks, which, with 850 tons of explosives, is a piece of cake.
The result? An underground connection of almost five kilometer between the islands of Vagar and Streymoy. When this doesn't ring a bell, we perfectly understand. It's not that often that we visit the Faroer Islands ('the islands far away'). But the inhabitants of the archipel are more than keen on the new tunnel connection, which, was brought into use by the end of 2002. And, as it often goes with nations proud of somethung: stamps were issued. Yesterday, February 24th, the Faroer issued two 5-crown stamps that depict the digging activities.
